In 1999 KSFO Radio and Radio personality Geoff Metcalf hosted "Ski" Demski and his SuperFlag on Flag Day, June 14th, 1999! It's the "Largest Flag in the World" at 255 x 505 (ft) with each star being 17 (ft) across!
Overlooking the original historical blimp hanger at Moffett Field in Mountain View, California, this Largest Flag in the World needs a minimum of 600 people to unfurl it, additional people needed if you want the flag to wave for more then a half hour! The Flag never touches the ground, there are hundreds of people below the flag holding it off the ground at all times.
Geoff Metcalf and about a thousand of his friends arrive early to assist in preparation for the un-furling. Geoff did his live radio show from the site and occasionally takes his portable microphone into the crowd and under the flag for a spectacular view of our stars and stripes!
When the flag is laid-out in preparation, it is placed on over 300 yards of clear plastic, and when the un-furling takes place, it is draped over the heads and hands of several hundred proud Americans to keep it from touching the ground! This is a great family event, and we hope to see you the next time we return to the Bay Area.
